The Story So Far

Composed and arranged by Hilary Burt

Hilary writes: The song is about trying to live in the present moment and resisting the temptation to guess what the future may bring.

"It’s the story so far, that’s all we can know.
No point in guessing, just let it go."

I wanted to try different textures with this tune. The flutes open the piece, with other members of the band gradually joining in. After the rhythm section plays a few bars of the groove, Charlotte’s tenor line leads the band back in to the main theme. This melody is then sung by the vocal section, after which Beccy Rork takes a solo on soprano. The final section is written in alternate bars of 4/4 and 3/4.

The featured musicians are Charlotte Glasson on tenor saxophone, Beccy Rork on soprano saxophone, Matt Wilson on rhythm guitar and the Trees vocal section.
