about

www.treesensemble.org

"Trees comprises all the layers of a healthy and supportive jazz scene with a well-established history."

Heart of Oak is the debut album from ‘Trees’; an ‘unfeasibly large ensemble’ led by Brighton based bassist and composer Terry Pack.

Drawn from the musical imagination of the leader and inspired by his deep affinity for the hidden history of his native Sussex coast Heart of Oak is also informed by the knowledge gained from a lifetime of music making with players from across the world, from Chicago bluesmen to Indian Bansuri masters, from sun-drenched Italian hillsides to packed London rock palaces, always returning to the homeland that’s inspired him.

Trees is an inclusive group comprising up to 40 players and augmented by guest professional musicians keen to take part in this exciting new musical project. Imaginative, fresh arrangements of classic tunes fuse seamlessly with innovative compositions by Terry Pack and by band member Hilary Burt.

“Trees is a coming together of players and singers, willingly giving their time and their talents to fill in the colours of the background or to populate the foreground with a cavalcade of unique characters.”
Eddie Myer
