about

After many months, the Crusaders reach the south of the Italian peninsular. While King Richard and the main body of the army traverse the Straits of Messina and invade Sicily, a smaller group continues to the tip of the heel of Puglia, and the port of Brindisi.
Peter and William are part of this smaller band, and spend several days in the port before departing for Cyprus. The first part of this piece, Brindisi, depicts them drinking a toast on their last night before setting sail. The second part depicts the voyage to their destination: the fortified harbour of Kyrenia.
At midnight, Peter is alone on deck, listening to the sounds of the waves, the wind in the sails and the creaking of the ship’s timbers. He remains on deck until dawn, thinking about his journey thus far and what lies ahead.
